General Description

Ytterbium(III) chloride is a chemical compound with the formula YbCl3. It is a white, hygroscopic solid that can be produced by heating ytterbium metal in a stream of chlorine gas. This inorganic compound is soluble in water, ethanol, and acetone but insoluble in ether. It is used in research and manufacturing applications, particularly in the field of specialty glass production due to its ability to increase the refractive index and density.
